Introduction to Foods
Students are required to take Introduction to Foods which falls under the Culinary Department. Please review the following information in regards to the course so that you are set up for success.
Please make sure that you have your uniform for the first class. Information on the uniform requirements can be found here. It is recommended to purchase these from Mission Restaurant Supply, which is 1 mile from the Highland Campus on N. Lamar.
As Hospitality students, you will need:
- White chef coat
- Black and white checkered chef pants – (no other patterns/colors accepted)
- White chef hat (or chef skull cap)
- Black non-slip, non-canvas kitchen shoes.
- Two (2) hand towels
- White chef apron
Please make sure you bring a copy of your Food Handler’s Certificate or ServSafe Certificate to the first class. Or, you may email it to the instructor before the first day of class.
Tool kits and name tags will be supplied by your instructor the week before classes and you will sign out a kit during the first class. These MUST be returned clean and with all items at the end of the semester. If the kit is not returned or items missing, there will be a hold on your account until you have paid for the kit. The cost of the kit is currently $115.
